Founder and executive director of African Entrepreneur Collective, Julienne Oyler, presented an inspiring TED talk earlier this year in which she described the life-changing economic opportunities that happen when aid systems invest in displaced people in addition to providing the basic necessities. It’s an ambitious idea, but as Oyler puts it, “Economic integration isn’t charity. It drives regional peace and shared prosperity.” This idea has succeeded in five African countries in which Oyler has worked. Could it also succeed across the globe?
